4 July - It's a big, BIG bang!

4 July - It's a big, BIG bang!

While BBQ's, parties and fireworks are fun for us, they can be terrifying for our furry friends.

More pets go missing on the 4th of July than any other time! Keep your favorite little mate safe and calm with these fireworks safety tips:
  1. KEEP PETS INDOORS
To prevent escape artists, create a secure haven at home. Add cozy blankets and their favorite toys to make a comfy den for your nervous pooch and ensure that they have plenty of water.

  2. TIRE THEM OUT!
Earlier in the day, take your dog for a long walk. Exercise stimulates serotonin and with pent up energy being released, your dog will be more relaxed for their evening in.

  3. MASK THE NOISE
Use ambient noise to mask the noise of fireworks - turn on the TV or music to drown out the sounds of fireworks.

  4. STAY IN (IF YOU CAN!)
If you can stay at home, or you have a pet-sitter to keep your little mate happy and safe, play games to distract them - coddling will only reinforce fear!

  5. TAG
Always make sure your pet wears an ID tag and is micro-chipped with up-to-date contact details, just in case.

  6. CHILL PILL
For medication options, seek advice from your vet.
